Maximize your store's revenue and average order value by creating upsells for your buyers. You can provide checkout page upsells to encourage purchases of additional products from your store.
Where to find
To begin, open Upsells section in your Checkify admin panel.
Create and manage your upsells in Checkify admin
Checkify supports downsells: an offer of a lower-priced product or service to a customer who has declined a more expensive option. Example: an upsell offer is proposed at EUR9.99. After a decline by a buyer, there is a possibility for the second and final attempt, but with a lower price of EUR7.99 for the same product.
This approach helps capture revenue that might otherwise be lost and can improve the overall customer experience.
Create an Upsell
You can create up to 100 upsells to choose from (but only 1 upsell for the lower-tier pricing plan).
Upsells, example of creating
Set an internal Upsell name
Set a unique designation to quickly find an upsell in the list. The internal name will not be displayed to buyers.
Decide on Upsell's title
Add a compact and attractive one! It will be displayed under the upsell picture.
Experiment with Upsell's description
The detailed description of your upsell is a truly important factor. Make sure to add a catchy one.
Accompany your Upsell with an image
Images play a huge role for the overall conversion of your upsell. If you donโt specify it, then we will use the variant image, if present. Otherwise, a product image will be pulled and applied for the upsell.
NOTE: For the sake of the best buyer experience, use square images (1:1 aspect ratio). The URL (link) to the storage with such an image must be publicly-available on the web. To store your images, we recommend using Shopify Files, while Google Drive links may not be supported and work properly.
Customize the text on the 'Accept' / 'Decline' buttons
The wording on the buttons is editable. The right message which resonates with buyers will encourage them to accept rather than to reject the upsell presented to them.
Enable auto-decline if a buyer does not interact with the popup
If your buyer does not react to the upsell offer, then, after some time, the order will be automatically considered as completed, but without the upsell offer being accepted (added to the total price, value).
You may give your buyers some time to think and evaluate, from 15 to 120 seconds, or set "Without auto-decline" option. This setting is applicable both for the initial offer and for the "second-chance" offer (if the first one got declined).
Set "Upsell applies to"
Here you can decide and choose if you want the upsell to show every time on the checkout page, or when specific collection / products / variants are picked for purchasing.
If you want to select specific collection, products, or variants for the upsell offer, you will see the popup from where you will be able to choose the desired configuration.
Once added, you will be able to edit the products.
Edit the chosen products
Show product name and upsell price in the footer
You can hide / reveal the product name and the upsell price from the popup.
Hide upsell if product variant is already present in the shopping cart
If the offer's product variant is already present in the buyer's shopping cart it is possible to hide (prevent from showing) such an upsell.
Add an offer after decline (optional)
You can add an additional offer when a buyer rejects the initial one (clicks on the 'Decline' button). For such an offer you can set the following:
- second upsell title;
- second upsell description;
- second offer image;
- second offer price;
- text on the 'Accept' / 'Decline' buttons in the second offer.
You may also set the "auto decline" rule for the second upsell offer.
After creating an upsell, you can preview how the offer will be displayed to buyers. It is possible to clone (duplicate / copy), enable / disable, delete every upsell.
The upsell will be displayed to buyers at the final stage of their purchase in the form of a popup. In the "Order details" They will be added to the general cart with the checkout_upsell mark. See an example below:
Resolving common issues
๐ I made several upsells targeting the same product. Which one will be displayed upon purchase?
Such offers will be shown to buyers randomly. In the Shopify admin panel you can analyze which one works better and then turn off the rest.
๐ I have several free orders created. Would it be possible to add an upsell for them as well?
No, the upsells will not be available for free (zero-rate, 100% discount) orders.
