Multi-currency and currency conversion features

Learn how you can work with currencies on Checkify checkouts: start selling globally, improve conversion and buyer experience.

Updated over 7 months ago

You can manage the way your customers see the values in different currencies and are being charged when buying from your store via Checkify checkout.

To begin with, visit admin > Currency section.

Currency conversion

  • Display of the total value of the order additionally in buyer's local currency

Checkify enables real-time currency conversion (order value estimation) for your buyers.

If you would like the total amount of the order to be also displayed in the buyer's local currency, apart from the default currency of your Shopify store, then you should enable this option.

Therefore, your buyers will see the checkout (cart) value in the currency they understand and use. The conversion will take place automatically.

ATTENTION: You can manage the default currency of your store in Shopify admin, Settings. Checkify works with what it gets.

  • Show checkout in cart's currency (Shopify Markets)

If enabled, Checkify will understand the currency of the cart, take it and form the checkout will be in this currency. The feature is useful for those who have activated several currencies in Markets.

Multi-currency

Empower your customers with an option to choose their preferred currency for purchase.

  • Allow purchases in other currencies

In addition to the default currency of your store, enable as many currencies as you need, so that your buyers would be able to complete the purchase and be charged in their native currency.

The offered rate is a dynamic (real-time) mid-market value based on data sourced from third-party service providers.

An optional conversion fee (0...5%) can be added to the rate displayed at the checkout. For example, a USD to EUR exchange rate with a 2% conversion fee should look like this: 0.9332 x 1.02 = 0.9519.

Once the trigger for "Allow purchases in other currencies" is set to active state, press "Edit currencies" to review the available set.

The availability of currencies on the list depends on the payment processors (gateways) connected to Checkify, as well as on the set of currencies supported by them. For example, as of 2024, PayPal can process charges in 24 currencies, while Stripe in 136.

NOTE: When the price (checkout's value) is converted, then all the options (checkout page offers, discounts, shipping rates, tips, etc.) are recalculated and converted too.
